International Business Economics (BA)

Objective of the BA programme: The objective is to train economic experts with a high level of English and/or German knowledge who can coordinate and perform work for international businesses, furnished with their skills in economics, applied economic sciences, methodology and those acquired in their specialisations. Students will be well-prepared to continue with a master programme as well.

The course aims to train professionals who can take advantage of their skills in economics, social sciences, applied general and internetional economic sciences and methodology in two foreign languages, who understand the international economic system and who are well-prepared to analyse the rapidly changing global economic processes. Graduates will be trained to manage and perform work for international businesses, large, small and medium-sized enterprises or international institutions, get involved in the opreation and execution of development programs at the international level for public organisations, with a special consideration to the objectives of the UN regarding sustainable growth and for projects of the EU cohesion funds including national and international development programs.

The curriculum has been designed to meet the objectives above, with a special highlight on practice-oriented education, the development of analytical skills, problem solving, teamwork and communication including the preparation of students to plan and carry out international development programs and projects.

The programme of International Business Economics has been designed to focus both on theoretical subjects  and on practical skills in relation to the profession, in compliance with the decree of 18/2016 (VIII.5.) by EMMI.

Internationalisation has become a key aspect at Tomori Pál College in the recent years involving a growing interest for Erasmus progams, the recruitment of international students from developing countries and teacher exchange programs.

In the field of development policies, students will basicly learn about the development policies and practice of global institutions and learn how to carry out their own projects. In the Hungarian-language programme, a greater emphasis is placed on the EU cohesion policies and the operation and practical aspects of national development programs supported by the EU.

Graduates of the International Business Administration programme in both languages have the option of continuing studies of the master level at Hungarian or foreign higher education institutions.

The student learns the basic principles of word processing and spreadsheets. They are armed with these skills to be able to interpret verbal and non-verbal communication information. History of Economics

The formulation of present economic processes are fundamentally shaped by past events in the economy. Learning these helps us understand changes that take place in the economy of our day.

The course introduces the main phases in the history of the Hungarian economy from the 18th century to the end of the 20th century. The focus is on fundamental processes that significantly shape the formation of the modern economy, major demographic processes, the transformation of agriculture, industrialisation, the building of infrastructure in Hungary.

The purpose of the subject is to introduce the concepts and methodology elements that support the analysis of the influences of economic policy measures and the understanding of economic events. It also assists the students to understand the system of macro processes, the motivations behind macro processes and the consequences of the activities of macroeconomic actors. The main goal of the course is providing knowledge for students about the theory of sampling. Sampling procedures and some of their typical practical applications. Students acquire the basic notion-system, the theory and the methodology of international economics.

They get knowledge about the international trade, the notion and measuring of comparative advantages. Introduction to Regional Economics

Students acquire knowledge about the subject, elements, methods and institutions of regional science. They will be able to consider the spacial situation of the economic activities and the main influencing factors. They will also be able to pay attention to the changed role of space and time as well as their effects on the economic processes Students will be able to evaluate the reasons of regional development through both microeconomic and macroeconomic approach. They will be able to interpret and evaluate the problems of land use of businesses, households, as well as the main issues of urban economics.

Market Analysis and Development

The role of market research is essential in the dynamically changing market environment. The course introduces the significance of market research, its assets, methods and influencing factors. Introduces the effects of the markets’ macro-environmental factors (demographic, economic, environmental, technological, political-legal, social) on different markets. Also introduces the differences between the consumer and business (B2C and B2B) markets, and the differences of purchasing behaviour on the specific types of markets.

The main goal of the course is to introduce the basic theories, methods and practical implementation fields of project management and human resource team management.

The course focuses on the main knowledge of project management theories, introduces the different types of management methods of project planning and implementation process. Complementing project management theories, the course also introduces the basics of human resource team management and combining it with project management organizational knowledge.

During the seminars, students can practice theoretical knowledge during the implementation of a real project and several project tasks.

The aim of the subject that the students will gain knowledge on the international trade policy and the international environment and its changes influences by different factors in the 21st century. The outstanding points of the course are the main flows of the international circumstances, the globalisation and regionalism, the openness of the world economy and protectionism, and the current issues of this decade. The main question of the course: how the countries could develop their international economic strategy and develop their foreign market policy within the multilateral and bilateral cooperation and agreements and in regional integration. The main types of international economic policies, and the practises by countries considered economic potential of large and small countries, and the emerging countries.

Intercultural Management

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the basic, comprehensive concepts, theories, facts and contexts of intercultural management. Students should know and understand the basics of intercultural management processes, problem-solving methods related to the subject, their application conditions and limitations. The student should have a basic professional vocabulary of intercultural management. The student will be able to explore new approaches and creative solutions through an understanding of the roots and characteristics of different cultures, and to recognise and identify typical misunderstandings and communication problems arising from a lack of cultural knowledge. During the course, the student will learn proven management methods, from strategy development to human resource management and organisational development, to successfully manage and benefit from cultural differences.

The subject divided into two parts: it combines the basic theory of international finance with the practical knowledge of international financial transaction related (limited) mainly to international trade transactions (both export and import). Students learn the definitions, international system and its main global institutions of international finance, their main markets, financial methods and the related international regulations. Combining the theoretical part and the practical aspects of international finance and international financial transactions the students would better understand the real transaction and the international financing methods interactions, the risks of financial means and methods chosen for delivering goods e.g.. The aim of the subject to give introduction to the development of international economic relations and the mechanism of main international organisations. In the complex global world the multilateral co-operations and their institutions gave gained important roles. In this subject the focus will be on the main international economic and financial institutions – global and international regional institutions – among the U.N. International Development Policies

The aim of this subject to give a comprehensive overview on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the U.N. which influence and orient the development plans by 2030 (strategic, operational programmes, projects) and will be supported by donor global or regional organisations, and  by developed countries individually. From the SDG for Agenda 2030 this course deals with the economic development and its public financing, analysing and assessing the aid programmes of the past development decades. In accordance with the global strategic plan for development done by the U.N., both the U.S and the EU also launch their own programmes and give financial support for the implementation. The economic growth of developing countries can be enhanced externally via aid programmes and aid for trade as well, which will be compered from their efficiencies. Students will be familiar with the different level of development by revealing their country’s strategic plan, the best operational programmes and projects at community’s level.

Methodology of International Developments

The aim of this subject to introduce the methodology of planning and management, financing, monitoring etc. as all these are required by international organisations support development programmes and projects from public resources. The Project Cycle Management (PCM) is the bulk part of the subject both theoretically and practically as students will apply their knowledge and methods to elaborate one project. Public procurement (contracting procedure) is also integrated into this subject as the regular way of using public funds. The main aims and contracting procedures will be also introduced on the EU regulation. The students will be familiar of project development and management applying PCM methods in working out of one concrete project in a team.

Students will learn about the concept and practices of money laundering. They will also gain an insight into the regulations of various states including countries in Europe and America to fight money laundering.

Finance II. (Corporate Finance)

The subject develops theoretical and practical framework for understanding and analysing major financial problems of modern company in market environment. The course covers basic models of valuation of corporate assets and capital, including the concept of present value, the opportunity cost of capital, discounted cash flow analysis, a consortium of valuation techniques, risk and return, capital asset pricing model, capital budgeting, corporate capital structure and financing decisions, dividend policy. It provides necessary knowledge in evaluating different management decisions and its influence on corporate performance and value. Logistics is a system approach helping the development of production and service offering and focusing on the practical and theoretical questions of these sunóbjects. Logistics emphasizes the importance of the additional activities of production and services for the proactical experts.

The main goal of the course os to teach this overally approach for the sutdents (about transportation, shipment assets, sipply management). It aslo aims to make the students understand the basics of logistic methods (e.g. product distribution planning), specific fields of logistics (storage, material handling, packaging, etc.).

The aim of the subject to give a comprehensive knowledge about the phenomena of corruption and political and economic interactions of bribery and harmful effects on economy and society. The main issues of this subject: definition, typology of corruption, causes, fight against destructive effects of corruption at national and international levels. The Conventions of international organisations, actions, results of the joint struggle against corruption.

The aims of the course to introduce the EU as customs union: EU as one customs territory, inside in the internal market the free movements of goods and services are guaranteed and with the non-EU countries common customs policy is applied. The students learn the EU’s customs policy’s aims, main measures and institutions. They understand the relations between the EU regulations and the related national regulations.

The students get to know the different interpretations, dimensions and fields of scientific investigation of security. They will be familiar with common security and defence policy of the EU, also the practice of cooperation on field of internal and legal issues.  They will also be familiar with changes of security policy of Hungary during the last two decades. They will be able to understand the security challenges, conflicts and international efforts against wars. The students will have their own view on asymmetric warfare, problems of terrorism and activity of international organisations acting against security challenges.
